Hit in the shoulder, Zach Collins will have surgery

Not varnished, Zach Collins. The Spurs announced that their pivot suffered a torn labrum in his right shoulder that will require surgery. The interior was hit during the last game of the regular season, against the Pistons.

At the start of the third quarter, when he was off to sign a big game (17 points and 9 rebounds in 16 minutes), Zach Collins contested a shot from the opposing pivot, James Wiseman. He immediately held his right arm and had to leave his partners. Verdict: dislocated shoulder on the action and therefore tear of the labrum. The same injury as Ja Morant, Julius Randle or even Kevin Huerter.

The Texans said he will have surgery in the coming days, but that he should be ready for next season. Extended last October for two years and $35 million, the pivot started this exercise alongside Victor Wembanyama in the major five.

Gregg Popovich ended up changing his mind by removing him from his bench, to make room for the Frenchman in the Texan racket. Zach Collins still started 29 times (out of 69 games played), a career record for him.

The former Blazers player, who had a blank year in 2020/21 due to an ankle injury, finished his season with just over 11 points and 5 rebounds on average.
