Weighed down by a sprained left ankle at the end of the regular season, Julius Randle still played in the playoffs with the Knicks. The strong winger gritted his teeth, but his efficiency took a hit.
From 25.1 points, 10.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists for 2.8 ball losses in the regular season, with 46% shooting success including 34% from 3-pointers, the former Lakers and Pelicans had thus fallen to 16.6 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists for 3.5 ball losses in the playoffs, 37% shooting success including 26% from 3-pointers.
First touched on March 29, against the Heat, Julius Randle had suffered a second sprained ankle, during Game 5 of the first round of the playoffs against the Cavaliers. Which deprived him of Game 1 of the conference semi-final.
He knew then that an operation would probably be necessary, but he still played the series against Miami.
ESPN announces anyway that the strong winger has just undergone an arthroscopy (a surgical operation during which one can see the operated joint thanks to a camera) at the level of his left ankle.
The operation takes place early enough in the offseason to allow him to recover and resume training within a few weeks, and thus be ready for the start of the next “training camp” of the Knicks.
