His son diagnosed, Tony Snell also discovers himself in the autism spectrum

It’s on the “Today” show, on NBC, that Tony Snell explained that he had recently discovered to have an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Thanks to her 18-month-old son, Karter…

The latter was in fact the subject of an early diagnosis which revealed his autism spectrum disorder, “a set of neurobiological disorders” which lead to more or less severe dysfunctions “in social interactions, communication, behaviors and activities”.

“I was like, ‘You know what, if it was diagnosed [autiste]then I think I am too [dans le spectre autistique]’. It gave me the courage to go and get checked out.”, explained the 31-year-old basketball playernotably passed by the Bulls and the Bucks in his career. “I was always independent growing up. Always alone. I couldn’t communicate with people on a personal level”.

A revealing diagnosis for Tony Snell, who played this year in the G-League, within the Maine Celtics.

A revelation

“I wasn’t surprised, because I always felt different. I was just relieved, I was like, ‘Ahh, that’s why I’m like this’. It gave meaning to my life, to everything that happened in my life. It was like everything lit up, like I was putting on 3D glasses” thus detailed the full-back/winger.

According to Tony Snell, the fact of not having himself been diagnosed paradoxically helped him to join the NBA since he is convinced that he would have been set limits.

“I think I probably would have been limited in what I could do”he assured. “I don’t think I would have made it to the NBA if I had been diagnosed with autism. [à l’âge de son fils]. Because at the time, we wondered what autism was. They probably would have put a limit on my abilities. »

Fortunately, things have changed, and Tony Snell can fully help his son.

“I want to make sure my son knows that I support him”he concluded. “When I was a kid I felt different, but I can show him that I’m here with him and we’re all going to get through this together, we’re going to grow together and we’re going to accomplish a lot together. »
