“Home Sweet Home” for the Warriors who return to victory by winning, in front of their public, against the Bucks (125-116). A success after extra time that bears the hallmark of Stephen Curry, author of 22 points in the 4th quarter and extra time! Without Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Bucks still had an eight-point lead five minutes from the end (105-97) thanks to Joe Ingles. A 3-point contest begins with Donte DiVincenzo, Ingles, and Curry stringing together the winning shots. 90 seconds from the end, the Bucks are still ahead: 108-103. They have possession, but the Warriors take advantage of the failures of Pat Connaughton in the corner, then of Brook Lopez under the circle, to believe it more. The ball to Curry. A feint to eliminate Jrue Holiday, and he does not miss a wide open 3-pointer (108-106).
There is one minute left to play, and Khris Middleton tangles his brushes on a “drive”. Klay Thompson picks up the ball, and sends Curry to the lay-up. The Chase Center is in turmoil: 108-108. There are 40 seconds left to play. The Warriors are 8-0 in 80 seconds. But Holiday, at 3-points, air-conditions the room! The Bucks regain the advantage (111-108) thirty seconds from the end. Better, Lopez against Jordan Poole on the next possession. Milwaukee has its destiny in hand but… Holiday loses the ball!
Like a great, despite Middleton, Curry creates his own shot and he hits the mark at 3-pointers (111-111). Behind, it is he who covers the lay-up of Jrue Holiday. Draymond Green’s final shot rolls around the circle. Extension !
In a playoff atmosphere, it is the “Splash Brothers” who will rock the game on the Golden State side. Curry and Thompson chained a 9-0 in two minutes to widen the gap (120-113). With his arm outstretched after his 3-pointer from nine yards, Curry has just killed the game, and it is still him who will score the free throws for the victory: 125-116.
WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER
The cons of Stephen Curry. The duel between Jrue Holiday and Stephen Curry has reached new heights in the “money time” and in a remake of the sprinkler sprinkled, it is the Warriors point guard who makes the difference by covering Holiday mounted in the circle. There is contact in the air, but the referees were in playoff mode.
The 3rd quarter. The Warriors confirm that they have returned to their habits of the middle of the previous decade with big heat strokes after returning from the locker room. This time, it’s Thompson who catches fire to sign a 16-4 and take a 13-point lead (66-53). But Milwaukee will recover and even take the lead at the end of the quarter.
Offensive rebound. It’s a stat that will please Steve Kerr. His players left only seven offensive rebounds for the Bucks. Conversely, they took 18!
TOPS/FLOPS
✅ Stephen Curry. Muzzled for three quarters, he let the game come to him, and he struck at the best time: in the 4th quarter and overtime. Author of 9 points in overtime, he ended up cracking Holiday and Middleton, his two bodyguards.
✅ The Thompson-DiVincenzo duo. Difficult to dissociate them as they evolved on the same tempo, and based on the same qualities. Both hit from long range, and they bring a lot in defense. We understand better why Steve Kerr associates them, and prefers to leave Jordan Poole of the starting five.
✅ Ja Mychal Green. The X factor of the evening with its 18 points. It’s all Golden State that breathes better when an interior can weigh like that on the opposing defense.
✅ Brook Lopez. We do not see how the title of best defender of the year could escape him. The Warriors have yet sought to take him out but his reading of the game is remarkable.
✅ Joe Ingles. He has regained his best level and Mike Budenholzer is having a hard time breathing it down. He is skilful, aggressive in defense, and he is a “facilitator” in attack.
✅ ⛔Jrue Holiday. A full match, but a lot of waste like this loss of ball 30 seconds from the end which is expensive. Physically, he cracked in the extension.
