Heading to the WNBA for former Pelicans assistant Teresa Weatherspoon

The period of unemployment was short-lived for Teresa Weatherspoon. Released by the Pelicans last spring, the former NBA assistant bounced back into the women’s league. According to Shams Charaniathe former WNBA player will join the Chicago Sky as head coach.

The Hall of Fame member, five-time All-Star during her time with the New York Liberty, will open a new chapter in her coaching career. And this after remaining five seasons in New Orleans where she was known for her closeness with Zion Williamson. The latter saw her as “his big sister”! Appointed in 2019 to ensure player development, Teresa Weatherspoon was at the time the eleventh assistant in the Big League.

WNBA champion in 2021, the Chicago team was looking for a new coach since the departure of James Wade during the year for an assistant position with the Raptors in the NBA. Chicago announced at the end of the season, after being eliminated from the playoffs by the Las Vegas Aces (2-0 in the first round), that interim coach Emre Vatanseyer would not be retained.
