This is undoubtedly the very good surprise for the Hawks this season. With John Collins gone, we wondered who was going to fill the power forward position in Atlanta, and that’s Jalen Johnson who seized the opportunity.
The former Duke player quickly took Saddiq Bey’s place in the five, making his presence felt on both sides of the floor. Enough to double his playing time (from 14.9 to 29.9 minutes on average) and explode his points average (from 5.6 to 14.1) by being more efficient (59% success including 43% from distance, compared to 49% and 29 %)!
Even if the Hawks remain in the soft underbelly (8 wins – 7 losses) in the East, the development of Jalen Johnson was fantastic news for Quin Snyder, and the Trae Young – Dejounte Murray tandem.
Except that against the Wizards, the 21-year-old was knocked off balance by Kyle Kuzma as he went for a dunk.
