Happy Birthday | The best of Stephen Curry’s 2015/16 season

In 2014/15, Stephen Curry wowed the entire league with his spectacular style and the Warriors’ fast-paced, enjoyable game. The regular season MVP and NBA champion, the point guard was now one of the stars recognized and admired around the world.

Except that we could not imagine that the following season, the playmaker was going to do even better and achieve an unforgettable year. The figures are dizzying: 30.1 points at 50% shooting success, 45% at 3-pts, 90% at free throws, 6.7 assists and 2.1 interceptions on average.

A fascinating daily spectacle

In 79 matches, the Californian prodigy will register 402 baskets at 3-pts! An NBA record of course, which would almost make his entry into the club “50-40-90” (50% success in shooting, 40% in 3-pts, 90% in free throws) or his feat of dominating the ranking points and steals (like Michael Jordan and Allen Iverson before him) for small successes…

Stronger still than the simple reading of the statistics, the visual impression. Rarely has a player offered such a sensation over the whole of a season. That of hovering, of succeeding in everything without forcing. Shaquille O’Neal, Michael Jordan or LeBron James had also crushed seasons of their power, their authority. But there, Stephen Curry did it with absolutely remarkable ease, lightness and fluidity.

Each week, he delivered a new high-flying performance (everyone still remembers his 12 award-winning baskets against the Thunder in February 2016 and his huge winning shot) or a basket that would go around social networks. For six months, the league lived to the rhythm of the daily shows offered by Stephen Curry.

A plebiscite among the 131 voters

The Warriors won 73 victories, setting the new NBA record, even stronger than the Bulls of 1995/96 and their 72 victories, but we could almost forget this fabulous collective as the leader illuminated his team’s performances with his talent.

With these individual records and a team hovering over the competition, voters crowned Stephen Curry with unprecedented unanimity. By receiving 131 first places out of 131 possible, the Warriors point guard succeeded where Shaquille O’Neal in 2000 and LeBron James in 2013 had “failed” (one voice missing each time).
