Without surprise, Tony Parker is in the running to be in the next ceremony of the Hall of Fame (August 12, 2023). Nothing certain however because, for the moment, the Frenchman is simply eligible for entry into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Retired since 2019, “TP” could be inducted into Springfield along with several other big names: Dirk Nowitzki, Dwyane Wade, Paul Gasol, Gregg Popovich (coach) or even Becky Hammon (player)!
This future vintage could therefore be one of the most qualitative in history, with a very European accent, since three of the best players of all time from the Old Continent could be named among the finalists in February. To know the exact composition, it will then be necessary to wait until April 2023.
No room for the old failed?
In addition, certain personalities left aside by the past will try once again to integrate the Hall of Fame within a year, despite the complexity of the file. This is particularly the case of Chauncey Billups, Shawn Marion, Mark Jackson, Mark Eaton, Michael Cooper, Tom Chambers, Reggie Theus or Michael Finley among the players. Without forgetting Paul Westhead, John Beilein and Dick Motta as coaches, or Joey Crawford as referees.
As a reminder, the Hall of Fame election process is complex. It is organized into four committees: a “North America” committee, a “Women” committee, an “International” committee and a “Veterans” committee.
While the “Women”, “International” and “Veterans” committees can only propose two names each, the “North America” committee can propose, on its own, up to ten names. They are then forwarded to an honor committee made up of 24 members, who will then vote for each name submitted to them.
Note that, to be inducted, a player must obtain at least 18 votes, out of the 24 of this honorary committee.
