Grizzlies sacrifice Bismack Biyombo to keep Vince Williams Jr

It's one of the great stories of the season and above all one of the rare satisfactions of Grizzlies, which ultimately earned him a reward from them. As indicated by ESPNthe hitherto “two-way contract” Vince Williams Jr. inherited a standard contract in Tennessee, worth $7.9 million over three years (not to mention a fourth year in team option).

Selected as the 47th pick of the 2022 Draft, the 23-year-old left-handed guard has revealed himself in recent weeks (5.9 points and 5.1 rebounds at 35% at 3-points) taking advantage, in particular, of the physical glitches of several other players in Memphis. With Ja Morant's withdrawal for the rest of the year, it seemed obvious that his managers were going to ensure his future with a guaranteed lease.

Bismack Biyombo sacrificed… but soon revived?

Except that, to secure the surprising Vince Williams Jr, the Grizzlies had to part with Bismack Biyombo, one of their most valiant soldiers. Recruited in November to compensate for the long-term injury of Steven Adams, added to that of Brandon Clarke, the 31-year-old pivot showed good things in Taylor Jenkins' five, with 5.2 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks.

Given what he has offered over the last two months in Tennessee, “Biz” could push another team to pick him up shortly, while Memphis intends to complete its squad with a third “two-way contract”, now that THE spot of Vince Williams Jr. is free.
