While the Spurs very quickly fell in the standings, Gregg Popovich has lost none of its enthusiasm. He says it and he repeats it, he takes great pleasure in training young people, so that they can achieve great careers in San Antonio or elsewhere. And when asked about his retirement, and the right time to take it, he is ironic.
” It’s a good question. Whether I retire next week, in six years or at the end of the season, I don’t think about all that.” he answers. “I think the little voice in my head will tell me when it’s over. »
In fact, Coach Pop’ is still passionate about his job, and he still likes to correct his players’ mistakes. For him, this is what motivates him to continue.
“When I get tired of saying to someone, ‘Why do you get so dominated behind your back? Please stay in front of your player. Maybe you can touch him and block him a little… Maybe after your shot you could put a little more effort into the defensive fallback instead of neglecting him. Get your ass to come back! “When I no longer want to do it, then I will retire”.
I asked Spurs coach Gregg Popovich when he’d know it’s time to retire.
“That’s a good question. Retire next week, 6 years from now, or after the season, I don’t think about that stuff. I think the little voice in my head will tell me that’s enough.”
