Three weeks after resuming, the NBA went on an unusual hiatus on Tuesday night. The reason ? The midterm elections in the United States. The Americans were thus called upon to go to the polling stations to allow the renewal of the 435 seats of the House of Representatives as well as a third of the seats of the Senate, among others.
In order not to disrupt this important day on American soil and to encourage citizens to go and vote, the NBA has decided not to schedule any matches.
This choice was welcomed by Gregg Popovich, who wore a top bearing the inscription “VOTE” on Monday evening during his visit to a press conference after the meeting against Denver.
“I think it’s great. Anything we can do to encourage as many people as possible to vote is positive. That’s what we’re supposed to embody in this country. I love that. I think it’s a great decision.”, so he said.
Before the meeting on Monday evening, Josh Richardson even took the microphone to encourage the AT&T public to go and vote. For Gregg Popovich, the success or otherwise of this election in terms of participation will be judged at the level of the youngest, who have the power to change the political landscape of their country. The Spurs strategist hopes that the new generation will be there.
“I think this generation is much more aware, not only of the vote, but also of the planet they are on. This is our hope in many ways. We cannot take it for granted. I hope that will prove true, that the younger generation will show responsibility a little better than all of us”.
