“Globetrotter” Ish Smith joins the Wizards staff

Ish Smith will not wear the jersey of a 14th different team. At 36, the playmaker has apparently decided to draw a line under his career since The Athletic announces that he is joining the Wizards staff as a “scout”. A priori, he will be responsible for supervising players in professional leagues, and not in the NCAA.

Last season, Ish Smith played half the season with the Hornets, before being cut in February. Since then, he has not found a contract, and his career will therefore include 805 matches played for 13 different franchises. It's an NBA record, and here are the 13 teams: Wizards, Rockets, Grizzlies, Warriors, Magic, Bucks, Suns, Thunder, Sixers, Pelicans, Pistons, Hornets and Nuggets.

This time it's the right one!

With some, he even made several stints, like the Wizards where he played from 2019 to 2021, then in 2022. A year ago, he had already almost hung up his sneakers, since the Nuggets had offered him to join their staff after the title won in 2023.

“I had to do a little consulting and start learning the business part”he explained. “I was going to start transitioning into leadership positions. A little coaching. Who knows? I didn't really know, but I was going there. I was going to watch Calvin (Booth, the GM), then the coach (Michael Malone). I was going to try to help as much as possible. I just wanted to learn to see what I wanted to do next.”

He will therefore learn at the Wizards, alongside coach Brian Keefe and GM Will Dawkins.
