Giannis Antetokounmpo invests in a golf franchise

A year ago, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy teamed up to create the TGL, a new golf league, whose operation is reminiscent of that of American team sports, or interclubs in tennis, since the principle is to oppose teams, not players. The debut of this unprecedented championship is scheduled for January 2024, and six teams of three players will be in contention for the inaugural season with stadium events clearly dedicated to the show as challenges on simulators. This is golf 2.0, or “high tech”.

In total, there will be 15 days, every Monday and like in team sport, it will end with playoffs and a final.

On Wednesday, we learned that Giannis Antetokounmpo had decided to invest in one of the “franchises”, and together with his brothers, they chose the Los Angeles Golf Club. They thus join Serena and Venus Williams among the owners of this team. ” We want golf to be accessible to everyone, and we couldn’t be more excited about designing the future of the sport.” explains Giannis.

Four months from the start of this league, only three teams are known, and these are those of Los Angeles, Atlanta and Boston. In Atlanta, the team is owned by the owner of the Falcons while the Boston franchise will be run by Fenway Sports Group, which owns the Red Sox and club Liverpool. Which means LeBron James is associated with it.
