Germany’s Dirk Nowitzki jersey retirement ceremony

After the Dallas Mavericks, it is now Germany that has retired Dirk Nowitzki’s jersey.

Before the match against France, at EuroBasket 2022, which begins in Cologne for group B, the “Wunderkind” thus saw its number #14 rise to the ceiling of the room, a sign that it will never be again selected.

A sober ceremony, like the 2011 NBA champion, which saw Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the President of the German Republic, Hamane Niang, the President of FIBA, and Ingo Weiss, the President of the German Basketball Federation , succeed each other to pay homage to him, before giving him the microphone.

Unsurprisingly, Dirk Nowitzki did not effusively. While Jason Kidd and Mark Cuban had made the trip, and Luka Doncic had stayed, he especially wanted to thank those who helped him along his way, simply promising to take less time than in Dallas … and not to forget his sister, this time.
