You don't change a winning team. It's a well-known pattern and it's the one applied by Germany, for the Paris Olympics. Coach Gordon Herbert, for whom this will be the last competition at the head of the Mannschaft, has called up almost the same group as in 2023.
There are ten players who won the World Cup last summer: Isaac Bonga, Niels Giffey, Maodo Lo, Andreas Obst, Dennis Schröder, Daniel Theis, Johannes Thiemann, Johannes Voigtman, and the brothers Franz and Moritz Wagner.
The last two world champions, David Kramer and Justus Hollatz, who had played very little in 2023, displaying the two smallest playing times in the group, are replaced by Oscar da Silva and Nick Weiler-Babb.
To finish their preparation, and after already two matches against the Blues (one win, one loss), Germany will face Japan in Berlin on July 19, then Team USA three days later, in London. Finally, at the end of July, things will get serious and the Germans will find themselves in Group B, along with the French team, Japan and Brazil.
