Year after year, the G-League plays a little more its role as a laboratory for the NBA, and this is where many new ideasbefore a possible application in the NBA. This season is no exception to the rule, and we learned that there will now be a new way to count shots taken at the last second.
Until now, when a player attempted an “ave maria” shot and failed, it was counted as a missed shot. Which could encourage certain players, very attached to their stats, not to shoot. For added spectacle, the G-League suggests that shots taken from one's own camp be counted for the team, and not for the individual player. More specifically, this concerns shots taken more than 11 meters away. Which includes the central circle.
An extension without a timer
Like the golden goal a few years ago in football, you will always have to score 7 points or more in overtime to win a match.
For example, if the score is 100-100 at the end of the 4th quarter, the first team to reach the threshold of 107 points will win. The new thing is that overtime will no longer be timed, and we will therefore wait for a team to reach this threshold of 7 points, whether on a free throw or a basket.
On the “challenges” side, the new rule excludes technical faults, Flagrant I and II faults, which will therefore be the only faults and violations reported which will not be subject to viewing by the referees.
