A week after a game with 25 points and 7 assists to start his second season in the G-League, Scooter Henderson signed a new high quality performance, on the night of Saturday to Sunday, for his third match of the 2022/23 financial year, with Team Ignite.
Far from the “Wembamania” in France (and on social networks), the 18-year-old leader compiled 18 points (8/19), 6 rebounds and above all 16 assists, a new personal best in his young career, to help his team to sign its first win of the season against the Santa Cruz Warriors, after three straight losses to start.
As usual, he showed an already very early mastery of the offensive tempo and the “pick-and-roll”, without however chasing his natural aggressive scorer, with several shots from mid-distance and finishes at well felt circle. He notably scored 11 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter, the scene of a furious “comeback” from Team Ignite, who made up for a deficit of 25 points to win.
While Victor Wembanyama monopolizes all the media attention on the Draft 2023 planet, Scoot Henderson thus continues to work (very) well, in silence, in his corner. And just like the French prodigy, his performances are fascinating to follow, and to decipher.
Note also, since he is another prospect of this Team Ignite, the very good game of the guard Mojave King, who torpedoed the Warriors behind the arc, with a 7/10 in a performance at 28 points (9/15). Less publicized and expected much lower in the Draft than his teammate Scoot Henderson, the New Zealand player is nonetheless a young talent on whom we must continue to keep an eye, throughout the season.
