Fred VanVleet declines his “player option” to become a free agent

As reported by ESPNthe second domino of the off-season Raptors just fell. After replacing Nick Nurse with Darko Rajakovic, the Canadian franchise has learned that Fred VanVleet would be a free agent in the coming weeks.

The 29-year-old point guard, who has never played anywhere but Toronto since the beginning of his career (2016), thus leaves 22.8 million dollars on the table by declining his “player option”. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that he will manage to win as much, if not even better, on the market this summer, because “FVV” is sure to be one of the best players available in his position.

As specified by ESPN, even if he was evasive about his future at the end of the season, it is not yet excluded that Fred VanVleet will return to the Raptors. However, it appears on the shelves of several teams (Sixers, Suns, Lakers) and a “sign-and-trade” is also considered within the Canadian organization.

In full force of age, the 2019 champion and 2022 All-Star has just come out of a year with 19.3 points, 7.2 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.8 interceptions on average (39% on shot, including 34% at 3-pointers ).
