France team: Laurent Foirest takes a break

While Vincent Collet has always combined his duties as coach of theFrench team and in clubs, Laurent Fairest prefer to make a choice. Just appointed coach of Boulogne-Levallois, precisely in place of Collet, Foirest made the decision to “temporarily take a step back” to devote himself fully to his new duties with the Mets 92.

“I fully understand that for a President, an employer, it was not possible to return on September 12 after the World Cup” justifies the former player of Antibes. “The situation is not the same as for Pascal Donnadieu who has been working with his assistant for many years in Nanterre. That would have meant playing the first game on the 16th. It was important to do the preparation in the first year. »

Laurent Foirest is not replaced

The 49-year-old former international has been assisting Collet with Les Bleus since 2017, so it’s just a break, so we should see him again in a year at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

The French Basketball Federation specifies that Foirest is not replaced, and the person concerned confirms that his “tasks will be divided between the two other assistants, Pascal Donnadieu and Ruddy Nelhomme”.

Meeting in Pau since July 27, France begins its preparation for the World Cup with a first match on July 31 against Tunisia. It is only at the end of this meeting that Foirest will leave the group.
