For their present and their future, the Pistons want to end on a good note

Even if they have the worst record in the league and their season is over since their terrible and historic series of defeats in a row (28), the Pistons still have reasons to play seriously until the end. They concern the future and Monty Williams has already warned his troops.

“I told the players: we have to come back with great concentration and determination to have momentum for this summer,” explain the coach. “It’s going to take a lot of sacrifice. We want victories and also progress in this second part of the season. »

There is also another desire, immediate or almost: not to become the worst team in the history of the franchise. The Pistons currently have 8 victories and the worst year was that of 1979/80, with 16 successes. Last season, Detroit players did better, very slightly, with 17 victories…

Avoiding the worst record in franchise history

“I want to try to win as many matches as possible,” insists Monty Williams. “I told the guys: I want us to give each other. I think everyone will adopt this state of mind. I know we talk about progression, but I'm more inclined to create momentum for the offseason. And this is done by giving body and soul every day. »

So there's no question of imagining the team's best players being put in the fridge, to preserve them and thus give others a chance. The end of the season will not be thrown away or used as a laboratory.

“I’m not going to try combinations just to see what happens,” warns the coach. “That’s the end of that, in my opinion. Of course we want to help the players progress but we also want to try to win every match. »
