The NBA’s verdict was particularly awaited after the altercation between Minnesota and Golden State which occurred on Wednesday evening and marked by a strangulation hold by Draymond Green on Rudy Gobert, following a first altercation between Klay Thompson and Jaden McDaniels.
The league ultimately opted for a five-game suspensionwithout pay, for Draymond Green and fines of $25,000 for Rudy Gobert, Klay Thompson and Jaden McDaniels.
The five-game suspension may seem lenient, but the NBA nevertheless justified its decision because of the Warriors’ history of unsportsmanlike behavior.
It is undoubtedly the absence of a blow that resulted in this suspension of “only” five games, which will still cause him a loss of $769,970. Draymond Green will therefore miss two games against OKC, the oppositions against Houston and Phoenix as well as an In-Season Tournament match against San Antonio.
On the other hand, the $25,000 fine imposed on Rudy Gobert may seem rather strange, even though the referees had noted that the Frenchman had tried to calm things down, not sending him back to the locker room. But the NBA finally decided to punish all the players involved.
