For Kyle Lowry, playing on the Sixers is 'a dream come true'

Native of Philadelphia, Kyle Lowry studied at high school then at university (Villanova) in Pennsylvania and, at almost 38 years old, he joined the Sixers. A franchise with which he has often been associated in the past and with which he grew up when he was younger.

It was not a dream » he declares initially, following his first training with his new team. “ You never want to play at home, since there's so much at stake… It's hard to play when you go home. In the end, it's a dream come true because I'm actually able to play in front of my friends, family and the people I cheered for growing up as a Sixers fan. Now I'm ready to do it. When you're younger you're not really, but at this point in my career I'm ready to do it. »

Familiar presences to facilitate integration

A certain form of pressure therefore places itself on Kyle Lowry's shoulders but, given his experience, integration should not be too difficult for him. Especially since he will find Daryl Morey in Pennsylvania, who drafted him with Houston in 2006, but above all Nick Nursewho directed him to Toronto, to help him acclimatize to this new environment.

It went well » notes the former Raptors coach, just crowned champion in 2019 with the leader. “ He's comfortable with a lot of the things we do because of our shared background, so he's doing well. He is obviously a leader, a vocal leader, and we have already noticed his presence. »

It must be said that Kyle Lowry wants to do well, and even do very well, in the colors of the Sixers. A month after his last match then his departure from Miami to Charlotte, where he was finally cut, here he is involved in a new project which does not fail to be ambitious with Joel Embiid and where his mission will be to bring team at the next level.

I'm excited to be here » thus assures the six-time All-Star. “ I am aware of my role and the work. My job is to make sure Tyrese [Maxey] improves and this team reaches a level it hasn't reached in a while. That's my job, which is to do everything I can to make this team and this organization better. It doesn’t matter my role, my minutes or my situation. My job is to be professional, to help Tyrese improve, to help the team improve, to help the coach become better and to push everyone to improve. »

The missing piece of the puzzle?

Philadelphia's goal being to win a title, something unheard of in the city since 1983, the arrival of Kyle Lowry (8.2 points, 4.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 interceptions) is a good step in this direction, especially that it is added to that of Buddy Hield. Enough to offer a significant number of possibilities for Nick Nurse to compose his rotations.

We should have a little more bench depth, a little more solid bench and have made a lot of progress at the 1/2 positions in recent weeks. So it's good, we needed it, and I can't wait to see how it all plays out, but this looks good to me. It's good to have all these guys here » explains the Philly coach, as the restart approaches.
