For Jonathan Kuminga, his third year will be the right one

After having demonstrated great skills and great potential during his rookie year, with an NBA championship title in 2022, Jonathan Kuminga clearly disappointed last season, to the point of leaving the rotation. But in Golden State, we still believe in him, and the person concerned is aware that he must move up a gear.

This is the goal he has set himself for the coming season, as he indicated from South Africa where he is taking part in a “Basketball Without Boarders” camp. If he has a real role in the regular season after surpassing 20 minutes per game in 2022-23, his goal now will be to gain responsibility and simply do more at all levels in order to stay in the rotation when the playoffs and important games are coming.

“The coming season is definitely the right year”, did he promise himself. “A lot of people expect a lot from me, and I expect a lot too. It’s a lot of pressure, but I don’t really pay attention to what is being said. The pressure will always be there. It’s up to me to go out on the pitch and perform.”

Kuminga wants to grow on a personal level

Propelled into one of the best teams in the league, Jonathan Kuminga took up a first challenge by showing that he could fit into Steve Kerr’s group. Over the past two years, he will therefore have progressed and learned on the pitch, but also off it, especially when he found himself out of rotation, at the start of the season and then more recently in the playoffs.

“There is nothing more important than growing as a person. As long as you grow as a person, it opens a lot of doors for you. Now I know what to do on the pitch, and what to do off the pitch. That’s just growing up.”

Ambition, work and regularity, he will need at least that to win in Golden State. And he can now count on Chris Paul to allow him to take a step forward.
