For his father, Gary Trent Jr. was depressed in Portland | NBA

Immediately in the light, immediately transferred! The trade of Gary Trent Jr was part of the events of the “trade deadline” of last season since Portland had sent its young shooter to Toronto (with Rodney Hood) to recover a confirmed winger and NBA champion: Norman Powell.

Former NBA player, and also moved from Portland to Toronto during the 1997/98 season, Gary Trent Sr. revealed that this trade had finally been experienced as a real relief by his son. Because even if he lived a meteoric progression during his third season in the NBA, the latter did not seem fulfilled with Portland.

“My son was playing with so much difficulty. He was so depressed and sad in Portland, so much so that it hurt me to see him play. I knew that my son was not on his plate, that he was not playing his game. He had to deal with a lot of negative pressure, negative statements from the leaders. He felt a lack of trust around him, that sort of thing. This trade was the best thing for his mind, for his career and his emotional balance”, he explained on SportsNet.

A lack of vision at the Blazers?

Gary Trent Sr. may be referring to the behavior of president of basketball operations and GM Neil Olshey, who was ultimately fired last December for his toxic behavior and his ranting and bullying of franchise personnel.

But beyond his infighting, Gary Trent Sr. has also shed light on Portland’s lack of franchise vision, and his son’s departure is perhaps the best example of those issues.

“They don’t really have a plan, and I don’t think they made the right decisions”he added. “My son is 5-6 years younger than Norman Powell, which means he has a lot more time to assert himself and more potential. So for me, the Raptors came out on top from the trade and thank goodness my son also came out on top in being given a better opportunity.”

Difficult to give him wrong with regard to the evolution of Gary Trent Jr. at the Raptors and but also because Norman Powell has just been sent to the Clippers in the company of Robert Covington in an exchange where the sporting interest passes to the second plan for the Blazers. The parenthesis is in any case over for Gary Trent Jr.

“When I come to see my son in Toronto now, I find him in much better shape mentally, spiritually. And I think he smiles more. He can’t wait for the next practice, he can’t wait to play the games, and I can see the love for the game blooming in him again.” he concluded.
