It's perhaps not against the Bucks that he imagined opening his account in the NBA, but it's done: Jordi Fernandez won his first game as head coach in the NBA. He left the room with the match ball as a souvenir.
“I'm going to put it in my office because my wife does a great job decorating our house and she doesn't want my basketball stuff”, does he have fun like this.
After defeats against the Hawks and the Magic, the Nets won and regardless of the total number of successes at the end of the year, a first victory for a new coach is always unforgettable.
“This represents a moment in my life and it’s the start of something special”continues the coach. “For someone who comes from Spain, being a coach in the NBA is huge”adds Dennis Schroder.
Still young (41 years old), Jordi Fernandez nevertheless has several years of experience in the NBA, but as an assistant (with the Nuggets from 2016 to 2022 then with the Kings from 2022 to 2023), while he also shone as Canada coach, notably winning bronze at the 2023 World Cup.
“It’s special when you started at the bottom of the ladder in the NBA. I worked hard to move forward, experiencing good times but also more difficult times. It's really cool to look back, to enjoy this moment because a first victory only happens once. Afterwards, we think about what's next. We must move forward. And I want to be on this team for a long time,” he concludes.
