Finally relaxed, Klay Thompson saved the best for last

For eight matches, Klay Thompson is back in the Warriors' starting five, and it coincides with the Warriors' best period of the season: seven wins in eight games. Since this visit to a Miami beach, the “Splash Brother” has averaged 21 points on 50% shooting and 40% on 3-pointers. We remember, for example, his 28 points against the Heat and his 29 points against the Rockets. As during the first tenure. Against Miami at the end of March, he had already scored 28 points.

Coming off a defeat against Dallas, Klay Thompson took advantage of the Jazz's visit to sign his second best performance of the season with 32 units. Stephen Curry spared, he proved that he could once again become an attacking leader as a starter, and not just as a substitute as in February and March.

An almost complete season

“I’m playing at a good pace at the moment”, rejoices Klay Thompson. “Whether I start or come off the bench, I will be myself and I will do everything I can to help this team win games. At this point in my career, I'm just grateful to be healthy. »

Since his return from injuries at the start of 2022, the shooter has never played so many matches: he has played 74 so far and has therefore only missed four matches this season.

When you have been away from the field for almost three years, as was the case for him, only health counts.

“It's easy to get excited about great shooting nights and big marks until you've had Achilles or cruciate ligament rehab…. It's very difficult to live with, to get through it and play 94% of the matches. This is what I am most proud of”underlines Klay Thompson.

Play for the love of the game

For the record, Klay Thompson is even the Warrior who played the most matches this season! Enough to boost his morale for the end of his career. In Golden State if possible.

“Once I realized you had to play just for the love of the game, I relaxed a little bit. Rather than playing for a contract or an All-Star Game spot or any reward, I prefer to play for the love of the game.” he confides to Draymond Green. “The fact that I can play cards with the guys on the plane, that we were playing ping pong last night after the game… We're having fun. That's the beauty of the game. I'm not trying to get another max contract or another sponsor. I just have fun, and I savor the work accomplished to get back to this point. Then, when the time comes for free agency, I will put it in my head. Yes, I want to extend to the Dubs, but I also want to prioritize my mental health and define what is important to me at this stage of my career. We have so many basketball games to play that I haven't given it much thought. If I start thinking about July 1st, I'll be doing myself a disservice. »
