Lithuania is definitely having bad luck in this EuroBasket 2022. Last in the group without a win on the clock, the Lithuanians have always been in their matches, losing by 7 points in the opening match against Slovenia (92-85), then 4 against France (77-73), and finally 2 against Germany after a suffocating double overtime.
To make matters worse, the Lithuanians felt aggrieved following a technique inflicted on German coach Gordie Herbert in the third quarter. From the free throw line, Jonas Valanciunas then only fired two free throws for the foul suffered, but no third as a penalty for technique.
FIBA evacuates the problem on the form… then the substance
Lithuania therefore lodged a complaint with FIBA, which stuck to the rules to clear up a thorny problem that could have jeopardized the outcome of this exceptional match.
The international body explains that the protest was inadmissible because it was received outside the legal time limit of 60 minutes after the match. She added that the claim would have been dismissed even if it had been made on time. The reason ? The case mentioned is not one of the situations for which a complaint can be filed… Relentless.
This is not going to calm the frustration of the Lithuanians, who remain bottom of Group B along with Hungary while Germany, co-host country, remains alone in the lead with three successes in three games.
