FIBA opens disciplinary proceedings after Georgia-Turkey incidents

The meeting between Georgia and Turkey, at the start of Eurobasket, was marked by an important incident. Expelled from the game, Furkan Korkmaz had been attacked by Georgian players as he joined the locker room.

In addition, Turkey also accused the Georgian police of having been involved in this fight… Faced with this event, it had even threatened to leave the tournament, which it did not do, finally eliminated in 1/8th of final by France.

Ten days later, FIBA ​​communicated on this matter. The body had opened an investigation and after reviewing the images, it decided to open disciplinary proceedings against three Georgian players: Tornike Shengelia, Goga Bitardze and Duda Sanadze. But also against Furkan Korkmaz, then against the national federations of the two countries.

The four players and the two federations will now be able to give their version of the facts, before FIBA ​​announces possible sanctions.
