Extended, Lauri Markkanen wants to assume his leadership role in Utah

The future of Lauri Markkanen at Jazz has long been uncertain. The Kings seemed very close to getting him back, while the Warriors and the Spurs were also very interested in his services.

Finally, the “Finnisher” extended, taking care not to be transferable during the coming season…

“I think it's fair to say that I saw some things going around the internet, but I tried very hard not to pay attention to them. I really believe in what the front office and staff are doing.”he assures from The Athletic. “It’s the people around us and the environment we have (that matters). We have a group of guys who want to get better. I have taken on a leadership role and my family truly loves Utah. We enjoyed our two years here. »

“Pretty cool” to feel wanted

Even if the Jazz is in the process of rebuilding, and far from the best teams in the Western Conference, Lauri Markkanen is ready, at 27, to experience this period in Salt Lake City.

“It was a good feeling knowing that a lot of teams wanted me. To be honest, it was pretty cool. This shows me that I was able to improve as a player. But I tried not to think about it too much. I know I wanted to come back to Utah, and that's where my priorities were. »

In particular, progress with the young group put in place by Danny Ainge and Justin Zanik.

“It’s important to repeat things in matches that you can’t simulate in training. I can still improve, so I want to work on what I do well. I want to show these guys how to do the right things. I want to play the right way, the way coach (Will Hardy) wants us to play. »
