Even in training, Joel Embiid is spared

First day of training, and first experience of “load management” for Joel Embiidrelieved of around ten kilos. We know, the goal is to be in great shape next spring, and at the Sixers, we avoid any unnecessary effort. Like participation in the “scrimmage” of the day.

“Joel was involved in everything, to a certain extent” reports Nick Nursewhile the team settled down in the Bahamas. “He just stopped at the scrimmage. It's very good. He discovers the new ones. He sees the different things they are capable of doing. We didn't need him to participate in the scrimmage. Besides, he was not the only one not to participate. »

Three other players did not take part, and they have one thing in common: they are well over 30 years old. They are Kyle Lowry (38 years old), Eric Gordon (35 years old) and Reggie Jackson (34 years old).

Will we see him in preseason?

“It’s about managing the build-up to get them to a given point. We try not to do too much” Nick Nurse justifies himself. “So, yes, I think it’s important to manage it. Everyone is talking about how we stay healthy, and how we create automatisms with all these new players. We will certainly be very smart on these two points. »

A “load management” which could apply to pre-season matches. Last season, Joel Embiid missed three of the four preparation matches. “I have no idea,” replies the Philly coach about this possibility. “It's probably one of my favorite themes, but I'm not planning anything at all. I know things change a lot and I really want to focus on the day. I'm going to review the videos and notes taken today, and think about what happens tomorrow and attack the day. »
