The Cavs have not been idle during their offseason, after failing in the conference semifinals of the last playoffs. There was the signing of Kenny Atkinson to succeed JB Bickerstaff on the bench, the extension of Donovan Mitchell to the tune of $150 million over three years, and now that ofEvan Mobley, to the tune of $224 million over five years !
This new maximum contract will be activated at the end of his rookie contract, in 2025, with a first year estimated at 38.6 million dollars, and an amount which will evolve progressively up to $51 million in 2029/30.
Now at the center of the game?
The official announcement was expected as Evan Mobley is seen as the future of the team in Ohio. Even if the leaders hope that he will now be better highlighted, especially in the offensive game of the group.
This is what Kenny Atkinson will set about doing, promising to give him more responsibilities in attack alongside the Garland-Mitchell-Allen trio. “I think we can schematically put the ball in his hands more often, honestly, and it could be done in a number of ways.”declared the new “head coach” during his presentation press conference.
Note that depending on the player's performance but also that of the Cavaliers, the total amount of Evan Mobley's new contract could still climb, and reach up to 269 million dollars.
