Evan Fournier: “I’ll be happy to go to San Antonio. We’ll see what happens…”

A relief and a breath. After spending three-quarters of the season at the end of the Knicks bench, Evan Fournier is the happiest player this summer. Leader of the Blues at Euro 2022, the Frenchman is more than motivated to go for the only medal he lacks: gold. But in a corner of his head, there is necessarily his situation at the Knicks. A month ago, he confided how much it would be a “disaster” to stay another year in New York.

“I would be shot” he warned. “I’m going to be traded, it’s not possible otherwise. Or I’d be stuck, and so would they. They have several executives with big contracts coming in. Unless they want to pay a crazy luxury tax… If I stayed, it would be a disaster, sportingly, for my career, everything. A year without playing, I can manage. Two… that would be terrible. »

The boxes are ready!

On Saturday, he was asked if this situation concerns him on a daily basis: “I’m not someone who cares about things that are out of my control. Nevertheless, it is true that I think about it. And then, I really want to leave. I hope it will be done before the competition, but I don’t really believe it. If it does, I think it will be before training camp [à la rentrée]. I’m very happy to have the French team to occupy my mind. »

We then ask him, laughing, if he has already prepared the boxes? “Yes, they are done! » he answers very seriously.

We whisper to him that we heard the name San Antonio among the possible destinations. What does he think? “I don’t know, I’ll be happy to go, but I don’t know the franchise any better than that. We’ll see what happens…”
