Evan Fournier almost joined the Pacers

It’s hard to imagine Evan Fournier in the Knicks roster next season. Discarded from the rotation during the season, the former Magic back spent several months at the end of the bench, and he knows he is going to leave.

“You know very well that I will not stay”he had dropped in May. “There’s no way they’ll keep me. I would be very surprised if they did. We will see. It is obviously not in my hands”.

Still under contract with the Knicks for next season, up to 18.9 million dollars, the Frenchman has a “team option” of 19 million dollars on his contract, for the 2024/25 season. Which means that the team that will recover it, will be able to part with it next July. This may be of interest to franchises, and Hoopshype reports that there have been talks of a transfer to the Pacers.

More accurately, it was a triangle trade with the Suns. Cameron Payne would have joined the Knicks, while TJ McConnell would have taken charge of the Suns. The Pacers would then have recovered Evan Fournier and draft picks. According to our colleagues, Jordan Nwora would have been part of the discussions, and such an exchange would have allowed the Knicks to create a “trade exception” of $ 19 million.

In the end, the negotiations were unsuccessful. It must be said that it is hard to imagine what Payne would have brought to New York since they already have Jalen Brunson and Immanuel Quickley in position 1. In addition, the Knicks and the Pacers made another exchange, with the arrival of Obi Toppin in Indiana, and finally Fournier had not been included…
