Erik Spoelstra: “We are the team that has taken the most buzzer-beaters this year”

Touched but not yet sunk. The Heat saw themselves access to the NBA Finals for half a second, when Marcus Smart’s attempt came out of the circle. Derrick White finally popped up to place a devastating buzzer-beater synonymous with Game 7 that will have to be played in Boston.

For Erik Spoelstra, this action is the perfect summary of what the Floridians have endured this season, including eight regular season games lost by possession. So far, they’ve always gotten away with it…

“I think we are the team that has done the most training sessions of this kind. We’ve taken the most buzzer-beaters this season. It’s just crazy.” said Erik Spoelstra after the game. “We had heartbreaking defeats, where we also thought we had done the right things and at the last second, the victory slipped through our fingers. But even after games like that, our competitive spirit has never been questioned. We always came back the next game to try to find a way to win. This is what we must do now. At the moment T, I don’t know yet how we’re going to get there. I am as shocked as anyone by this action. But I know that within 48 hours, we will have found a solution. And there is nothing better than a Game 7. It is an incredible privilege to play on this stage with so much at stake”.

Erik Spoelstra would like to play again immediately!

On the last action of the match, Erik Spoelstra felt that his players had done the job. Sometimes it just takes a little for the coin to fall on the right side. Tonight, that was not the case.

“Ideally, you hope you did the right things. And then the ball bounces in a certain way, the only one that couldn’t have hurt us more. But I think we had a lot of things checked on this action, but sometimes things just don’t go your way. But I don’t think we can have any particular regrets on that. It’s just unfortunate. But the whole season has been like that, and it’s been an amazing streak so far.”

It is therefore already time for remobilization as the season for both teams will be played out in a match with a place in the NBA Finals at stake. And Erik Spoelstra has more than confidence in the ability of his troops to bounce back, once again.

“This time, I don’t know how we’re going to get there, but we’re going to go out there and do the job. We’re going to focus on that; over the next 48 hours. We haven’t had anything easy this season, so we’re going to have to go through it. This is how it should be for our group. We would like to be able to play again now, and play 48 minutes again. But we will wait 48 hours and do it in Boston”he concluded.
