Eric Gordon authorized to play with the Bahamas!

This is news that will not please future opponents of the Bahamas… FIBA has authorized Eric Gordon to wear the Bahamian jersey for the qualifying tournament for the 2024 Olympic Games. In the running for a place for the Olympics, the Bahamas will present themselves in Argentina with four NBAers: Eric Gordon therefore, but also Deandre Ayton, Buddy Hield and Kai Jones.

If there was any doubt about the participation of the Suns rookie, it is because he has already worn the American jersey. It was in 2010, and he had been world champion alongside Kevin Durant and Derrick Rose. FIBA rules prohibit playing for two different teams, unless it is “in the interest of basketball” and the player participates in the “development” of a national team. which is the case. Another obstacle removed: the authorization of the United States to release the player.

Born to a Bahamian mother, Gordon will therefore be in uniform from August 14 to 20 for the Americas zone tournament. The Bahamas are in the group of Cuba, Panama and host country Argentina. Objective: finish in one of the first two places. To then cross with the two best nations of the other group where we find Uruguay, the Virgin Islands, Chile and Colombia.

Coached by Warriors assistant Chris DeMarco, the Bahamas squad includes many players from France such as Jaraun ‘Kino’ Burrows, Domnick Bridgewater, Rashad Davis, Willie Mackey and Travis Munnings.
