We had lost sight of him for a few years, but Elfrid Payton still hopes to play in the NBA again, and ESPN announces that he has just accepted an invitation from the Pelicans. It is a franchise he knows well since he probably had his best season there. It was in 2019 with 10.6 points, 7.6 assists and 5.2 rebounds on average. That year, Elfrid Payton had two triple-doubles in a row.
Now 30, he hasn't played in the NBA since his move to the Suns in 2021/22, and last season he played with the Indiana Mad Ants in the G-League. His stats: 12.2 points, 9.6 assists and 5.2 rebounds per game.
Formerly the 10th overall pick in the 2014 draft, Elfrid Payton attended the Pacers' camp a year ago before joining their G-League team. Perhaps he'll suffer the same fate at the Pelicans, even though they still have the option to sign an additional player and lack a third point guard behind Dejounte Murray and Jose Alvarado.
Regional of the stage since he is native of Louisiana, Elfrid Payton therefore has an appointment in a week in Nashville for the start of the training camp because the work on the Pelicans facilities is not yet finished.
