Dwane Casey expects ‘significant’ progression from Pistons

The rebuilding process has been underway for Detroit for three good years now. Thirteenth, fifteenth then fourteenth in the Eastern Conference, the Pistons finally have good hopes of getting out of the bottom of the standings.

In any case, this is the conviction of Dwane Casey, for whom Jaden Ivey and Jalen Duren could represent the last pieces allowing his puzzle to look like something decent.

“Reconstructions are always difficult. We are taking a new turn. It’s an exciting time. We added some veteran players with Alec Burks and also Nerlens Noel, so it will help our youngsters grow. We have really taken a new step in our reconstruction process”, he confided Wednesday on the sidelines of a baseball game between Detroit and Seattle.

Several mature players

All the elements seem to come together for the team to finally find the levers to aim for 30 victories at first, and why not more if you like.

“We expect growth. Internal progression is very important. One thing that Troy Weaver (the GM) did was build a group of young, hard-working, tough guys who worked all summer. I can see improvement”he added. “The game has slowed down for a guy like Saddiq Bey. You mentioned Cade Cunningham. You mentioned Isaiah Stewart… For all those guys, the game has slowed down. So the growth is there. The Summer League team had a great training program, and we also got to see their development. We expect it to continue like this”.

It is difficult for the time being to make further projections with regard to the number of factors that will be taken into account. But there is hope a few weeks before the start of the “training camp”.

“We feel that the training camp will come quickly”he continued. “I’m not going to set limits on what they can achieve, but you will see significant improvement with the team starting this year.”
