We were starting to get used to it. Since two months, Jaylen Brown wears a protective mask, because of a fractured face. Then, at the start of the second quarter of this Game 4 in Atlanta, the winger returns to the floor without his mask. Why is that ? Because he was 1/7 shooting at that time?
“Maybe it was just in my head, but I just needed to change something. As soon as I took it off, it turned the right way”he describes to ESPN. “I was talking to Marcus Smart when I saw Brown take off his mask”says Jayson Tatum. “I understood immediately that a change was about to take place. »
Jaylen Brown changes her face
The change of face (no pun intended) is indeed radical: without his mask, Brown will score 29 points at 11/15 in the shoot!
“He did actions with strength, he did great things. We knew it was going to be different.” comments Marcus Smart. “After that moment, I noticed his calm,” adds Joe Mazzulla. “He was excellent near the circle, to space out the game, to make the right choice. As soon as he was in the racket, he was not mistaken. I’m really proud of him for that. »
Faced with this performance, will Jaylen Brown definitely drop the mask? Probably not because his cartilage around his cheekbone is still healing. And then, the All-Star (who played the All-Star game with it) got used to this object that players generally don’t like.
“I’m just starting to feel comfortable with it since I’ve been wearing it,” he explains. “At first I didn’t like it but I had to wear it. For this game, I needed a change. Changing my shoes, wiping my hands, taking off that mask… Whatever, I had to do things differently to help my team. »
