Zach Edey was missing last night in the Grizzlies' loss to the Nuggets, and he is expected to be out for several weeks. Fortunately for Draymond Greenit is not because of his fault on the Memphis pivot, since the latter was injured in the following match by falling on the foot of Dario Saric.
Draymond Green's foul caused a lot of talk because the Warriors' interior had blocked the giant rookie's foot as he went on a counterattack. First whistled as simply unsportsmanlike, it was then reclassified as Flagrant I, which the inside of the Warriors did not really appreciate. The person concerned took advantage of his podcast with Baron Davis to explain it.
“You know who hasn’t seen the Flagrant 1? The NBA. Who else hasn't seen it? The referees. First thing, if a player finds himself very close to me on the ground, Draymond Green, the action will be reviewed. There is no doubt about it. If an action is infinitely close to a Flagrant, the referees will watch the video. They didn't even go there, that's how insignificant it was.”launched Draymond Green, who was also excluded at the end of the match for two technical fouls that evening.
The Warriors – Grizzlies rivalry is reignited
The Warriors player did it again by tackling Taylor Jenkins and Zach Edey for their outings after the match. The Grizzlies pivot had notably declared that this action was not “not a basketball action”imitated by his coach, who recalled the “code” mentioned by Steve Kerr during Gary Payton II’s injury…
“And there you have Taylor Jenkins, who is a softy, coming out in front of the media. At some point, you have to remember that we beat him in the playoffs because he let his emotions overwhelm him and his team followed him and collapsed.” he added, referring to the 2022 conference semifinal won 4-2 by Golden State. “They couldn't manage their emotions because their coach couldn't manage his. It's only the 11th game of the season, and you're going to the media to cry about a foul on your 2m24 rookie. Look what you just taught your rookie: how to be too sensitive and go talk to the media about a mistake. We're big boys, you're not going to complain to the media about something wrong. What you need to teach him instead is how to deal with a big mistake. There, you teach a 2m24 pivot how to get eaten by Draymond Green (…). It's hard to win with a coach who is going to cry for a foul on a 2m24 pivot who just made him fall. On the other side, there is a coach who has won everything and who encourages that, the fight.”
Victim of his reputation?
Draymond Green therefore still considers himself the victim of his bad reputation, but this new outing is not likely to improve his reputation with opponents, or those responsible for evaluating mistakes…
“As we already knew, the NBA responds based on what people think and so they reclassified this as a Flagrant Fault. Because it’s Draymond Green we’re talking about. It's from me. If it had been a Flagrant, it would have been whistled straight away. And even if it's a Flagrant 1, it would have been whistled like a Flagrant II. And then you have Stephen A. Smith saying a lot of people think I should be suspended, and that's not true. Because if it was, guess what? Draymond would be suspended directly. So stop that. We know it, Draymond Green attracts buzz, we all know it.”
