The Hornets season is over but Charlotte won last night. The LaMelo Ball franchise was one of the teams affected by the “tie-breakers” for the 2024 Draft, and it is one of the winners of the five draws carried out by the NBA.
Tied with the Blazers with a record of 21 wins and 61 losses, the Hornets finally have a better chance percentage as the third worst record in the league.
The difference is minimal, but Charlotte now has a 13.3% chance of obtaining the first pick in the draft, compared to 13.2% for Portland. The Hornets will now not be able to choose lower than seventh place in the Draft on June 26. Five other identical situations were decided by the league on Monday.
The Kings still offer the Warriors
Not content with having taken them out of the “play-in”, the Kings also beat the Warriors for the theoretical 13th choice, if Sacramento does not come back during the “lottery” on May 12. Golden State should in any case see this choice return to the Blazers following several exchanges in recent seasons… Unless the Bay franchise pulls off the heist and moves back into the Top 4 (3.4% chance).
The other “tie-breakers” have determined “final” picks, beyond the “lottery teams”. The Sixers will pick at 16th, just ahead of the Lakers, both with a 47-35 record. This choice from Los Angeles could take over the management of the Pelicans following the trade of Anthony Davis to California,… five years ago!
If New Orleans chooses not to recover this round, the Lakers' 2025 round will be automatically transferred to them. Behind, the Magic will choose ahead of the Pacers in the 18th and 19th choices, even if Indiana will immediately send this pick to the Raptors as part of the transfer of Pascal Siakam.
The Mavericks for their part obtained the 24th choice ahead of the Knicks for the anecdote, since this player will anyway be chosen by… New York, following the transfer of Kristaps Porzingis five years ago. At the top of the West, the Nuggets for their part recovered the 28th choice ahead of the Thunder (29e), which will send this pick to the Jazz.
