Draft 2024 | Presentation by Baylor Scheierman (Creighton)

When some begin their first NBA season at just 19 years old, Baylor Scheierman will be five years older, more than the length of a contract for drafted players. Nothing very surprising in a promotion which is not overflowing with young prospects who have sufficiently convinced.

Should we look elsewhere for Baylor Scheierman, as if the train had already passed? Rarely considered in the first round, the Creighton player saw his rating rise after a successful passage during the Draft Combine oppositions, after a season concluded in the third best five of the NCAA. Baylor Scheierman is not the profile with the greatest “wow effect” of this 2024 Draft. But his offensive qualities could be useful to more than one team.

Profile

Job : winger/back
Size : 1m99
Weight : 92 kg
Team : Creighton Bluejays (NCAA)
Stats 2023/24: 18.5 points at 45% (38% from distance), 9 rebounds, 3.9 assists in 36.8 minutes

Strong points

– Scoring. Behind his modest 70th place in the ranking of the best scorers of the season, Baylor Scheierman is in reality a complete attacker, endowed with a very good long shot (38.1% in more than eight attempts), in all positions and situations and up to 'a good meter behind the arc. He is as effective at leading a pick-and-roll for himself as he is at finding a partner.

– The rebound. Baylor Scheierman is one of the elite rebounders among NCAA guards, and has been since his debut at South Dakota State. Although not the most spectacular relaxation, it compensates with impeccable positioning. All the more impressive as he played alongside pivot Ryan Kalkbrenner, who stands at 2m16!

Weakness

– Defensive potential. An average athlete, Baylor Scheierman is an okay defender, at best, and should suffer more in the NBA. His lateral movements are abnormally heavy for a player who is not the most powerful. His very average speed does not allow him to catch up on his opponents' circle attacks, despite his agility qualities which he demonstrates without the ball in attack.

Comparison

A dangerous left-hander from afar, notably through his movements, while being oriented towards the collective, Baylor Scheierman sometimes recalls Joe Inglesanother player who did not “look like much” while stacking up the actions that make a team win.

Prognosis

End of first round, or even start of second round. Baylor Scheierman could very well fit into a title candidate team with a well-established team game.
