Draft 2023 | Fallen to 5th place, the Pistons do not want to “spit in the soup”

They had, like the Spurs and the Rockets, a 14% chance of getting the first pick of the Draft, but the Pistons end up with the fifth. A hell of a fall which showers the ambitions of the franchise a little.

But Troy Weaver, the GM of Detroit, does not want to talk about disappointment. It is even very reassuring: there is enough to do a good deal during this Draft.

“There is talent and we can have a very good player in this position”, believes the leader for Michigan Live. “Last season, we took a young talent with Jaden Ivey in fifth position. I said it a few drafts ago, it doesn’t matter what place you get, the important thing is the player you take. »

This is why the Pistons relativize. Although all eyes in the lottery were on first place, which is for San Antonio, and Victor Wembanyama, Detroit has already had this chance in 2021. Moreover, the 2023 edition should not be summed up solely French, however talented and promising he may be.

“We do not spit in the soup”, continues the leader of the Pistons. “We can’t wait to draft in fifth position. It is obvious that this first choice was important, but we are satisfied with our place. You can’t win every time and we got the first choice two years ago. We can continue to move forward. »
