Doug McDermott will try his hand at French later

The Spurs took advantage of Sunday's match to pay a new tribute to Tony Parker. Asked about TP's legendary journey, Doug McDermott did not fail to recall the importance of the legacy left by the one who will remain as the last number 9 of San Antonio.

“He’s an icon, obviously. What he has done for this franchise is sensational,” did he declare before the game against the Pelicans. “Just the fact that he’s here is really great.”

Teammate of Joakim Noah, then of Victor Wembanyama

The shooting wing only had the opportunity to face the Spurs' “Big Three” with Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan during his first two seasons in the NBA, from 2014 to 2016, when he played in Chicago. At that time, he witnessed memorable fights with a certain Joakim Noah.

“When I was with the Bulls, it was pretty fun coming here to San Antonio, when Timmy D, Manu and Tony were still here. Just playing against him was impressive”he added. “I remember playing with Joakim Noah in Chicago, another Frenchman, and I remember they were always talking in French the whole game, talking a lot of nonsense to each other I guess.”

The “French Touch” of the Spurs is now embodied by Victor Wembanyama, and Doug McDermott is trying to support the number 1 of the last Draft as best he can in his first steps in the NBA.

“It’s great to have another French player in our team now. He also admired Tony Parker when he was younger. I try to help him as much as possible with English. We're going to have to take care of that first before I switch to French.” he concluded with a smile.
