Like other legends before him, the career of Derrick Rose could end without being crowned with an NBA championship title.
While he is expected to leave for the Knicks where Tom Thibodeau took him out of the rotation on Sunday against the Cavaliers in favor of Miles McBride, the profile of D-Rose could interest many candidates for the title. We talked about the Dallas track if Kemba Walker doesn’t fit. But the interested party does not make it a priority.
His career has been marred by so many major injuries that to still be able to play in the NBA today is a much bigger accomplishment for him.
“I just want to be happy playing basketball. Of course, if I could get a title, that would be awesome. But I always felt like being on the court for my 15th year is a bit like a title for me”, he said yesterday. “I was the first to do it, to go from a maximum contract, then to a minimum, before then getting the contract I have now (43.5 million over three years, signed in 2021). I was the first to do so. I’m just trying to create pathways for other people. I won’t be the last to do what I did. I won’t be the last Derrick Rose. There are others who go through hardships and hardships too.
Being still in the NBA, his greatest reward
Coach Thibodeau, for his part, confirmed that he wanted to stay with a rotation of nine players, namely without Derrick Rose, Evan Fournier, or Cam Reddish, also dismissed.
Against Cleveland, Miles McBride contributed with his defense, and even if he did not score in 16 minutes of play, his contribution on the field was positive (+/- to +8) and above all, the Knicks won. “Coach said he wanted to see Deuce (McBride) in action. That’s all he said to me, so I understood.”added Derrick Rose about his dismissal.
At his age and with his experience, the leader will try to stay the same in the locker room until the situation settles.
“I’m just trying to be professional. I always talk to young people. It’s not like I don’t like anyone on the team. I act the same way. I’m not fake or anything like that. I’m just trying to work on my physical condition, to keep my breath. I’m trying to keep up the pace to prepare for when I’m going to play again.
Will it be in New York? Evan Fournier must ask himself the same question.
