Diploma, entry into the Hall of Fame and jersey retired: Stephen Curry’s big night at Davidson

The excitement was palpable inside the John M. Belk Arena. And for good reason because Stephen Curry, Davidson player from 2006 to 2009, was triple celebrated at a ceremony organized by his university.

After splitting the crowd and kissing his loved ones, the Warriors superstar therefore received his diploma, a “bachelor” in sociology obtained after completing his course via distance learning courses last season.

A degree he promised his mother, Sonya, 13 years ago when he ran for the NBA Draft, and which Davidson needs to enter the North Carolina College Hall of Fame.

The hat-trick for the king of 3-pointers

Presented by the president of the university, Doug Hicks, the leader had to hold back his tears before throwing his graduate hat in the air following the encouragement of the crowd.

“It is an absolutely incredible day and an incredible moment for me and my family”, did he declare. “The best decision I’ve ever made was to come to Davidson University and continue my education there, join an amazing community, and most importantly, play for an amazing man who made this program what he was. he is today, coach Bob McKillop”.

In the process, he therefore received two other distinctions since he became the first athlete from Davidson’s college to have his number (#30) removed. Usually, it’s the jerseys that are retired by the college, which means the numbers (like Fred Hetzel’s #44) can still be worn.

Stephen Curry was also inducted into the university’s Hall of Fame, a very nice evening in three acts in short for the best 3-point shooter in NBA history.

“Every father hopes his child will make the world a better place. That said, I’m a lucky dad for all he’s accomplished. If you want to know how to treat people, look at this man right there. And the next Hall of Fame he will join, you know where he will be! “ launched his father, Dell Curry.
