For players who were brought up on the NBA game, the transition to the FIBA game is sometimes difficult, if not impossible, to make. For others, however, it is an opportunity to show another side, to sometimes even explode, and to make different qualities speak or to emphasize them even more. Dillon Brooks clearly falls into this second category.
Excellent last summer, during the World Cup, the Canadian has been averaging 15 points since the start of the Olympic Games, with a 71% success rate at 3-pts! He is therefore thriving offensively, while being able to insist on defense, in a style that corresponds to his profile.
“The whistles are different,” notes the Houston player comparing NBA and FIBA basketball. “That's the way basketball should be played. Basketball is a physical game. The referees have to be able to not blow the whistle when a player overdoes it, or when there's contact. That has a big impact on the game.”
“I love this style of play”
Having more freedom to impose his physical power and stick to his opponent is necessarily positive for Dillon Brooks. ” It's certain “says the former Memphis player. “Afterwards, I am also whistled at because of who I am, because of my game. I have to find the solution. Each match is different, but I love this style of play. It fits with my game and it allows me to play better in attack too.”
He knows it, his reputation precedes him and he remains the player we love and hate. And it can't get any better when he becomes a pest in defense, a disruptor who hits and pushes the stars of the Games.
“Yes, it's the same. I'm known everywhere I go,” he said, confirming that he receives the same treatment from spectators in the NBA or in Paris this summer. “Sometimes where I go: Germany, France, Spain, whatever. It's always the same.”
