For the last day of the group stage of theIn-season tournament, the calendar offers us an enticing display between the two best teams in the West. At stake: the supremacy of the conference, but above all a place in the quarter-finals of this NBA Cup in the event of a (large) victory for the Wolves coupled with a (close) success for the Warriors against the Kings.
Except that the Thunder obviously did not let it happen, bravely playing his luck in this game in the wake of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of course (32 points) and the regional stage, Chet Holmgren (16 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists, but at 6/20). Insufficient, however, to prevent Minnesota to win on the wire (106-103), thanks to the contribution of Rudy Gobert (17 points, 16 rebounds, 4 blocks), Troy Brown Jr. (17 points) or Naz Reid (15 points, 7 rebounds).
As for Anthony Edwards (21 points), he had to leave his teammates in the third quarter because of a hip injury. That didn’t stop them from bending OKAYwho had the opportunity to equalize with “SGA”, even if this was not enough to reach the next round of this In-season tournament.
TO REMEMBER
– The exit of Anthony Edwards. It was by wanting to dunk on Kenrich Williams that the franchise player of Wolves lost his balance in the air and landed badly on the right side of his body. He needed help from his teammates to get back to the bench and, although he returned to shoot his shots to the cheers of the crowd, “Ant” was unable to continue beyond the next three possessions, as the pain in his hip was too much. He therefore had to let his teammates manage – and then win – without him against OKC. While waiting to learn more about his injury and his possible unavailability…
– Minnesota establishes its leadership. Opposed to their runner-up in the standings, the Wolves struggled and suffered, falling behind by up to 12 points in the first half, but they finally managed to get the better of this eye-catching Thunder team. Thanks to Rudy Gobert, imperial on each side in the paint, but also thanks to Troy Brown Jr, decisive coming off the bench in the company of Naz Reid. This was necessary to compensate for the absence of Anthony Edwards as well as the clumsiness of Karl-Anthony Towns. As a boss, Minny therefore strengthens his status as leader of the Western Conference.
