Derrick White ready to shine Celtics’ new ‘Big Three’

scorer back, Derrick White is also a good passer and can also play as a playmaker in a role of conductor. The back of the Celtics thus turned to almost 4 assists per game last season, and it should be remembered that he had finished the first part of the 2021-2022 season with the Spurs at 5.6 assists.

This is what Joe Mazzulla expects of him next season following the reconfiguration of the workforce which propels him for the moment incumbent leader according to recent statements from his coach. Brought to react to this news, the player said he was ready to take on this new responsibility.

“It is obvious that with the departure of Marcus Smart, there is this role of playmaker, which I practiced very little last year, which is freed up. I can’t wait to start, to evolve with the team and just to put ourselves in a good position every time. I can’t wait for the season to start and to be able to work with Joe Mazzulla and the rest of the guys”, did he declare.

Adjustments will be necessary, especially with the arrival of Kristaps Porzingis who will also bring his share of novelties in the attack of the Celtics. But Derrick White is hopeful of being up to it. Holder, at the heart of the action, but in a less scoring role, the game is certainly worth the candle.

“I don’t think there will be a big change. I’m just going to have the ball in my hands more often, which I’ve done for most of my career, so I’m going to go back to that and get the guys in the right place. It is clear that with Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis, I have a lot of talented players around me, which will make my job easier”.

After the big mark of confidence that Joe Mazzulla showed him, Derrick White is now waiting for another via a contract extension. He will be eligible in September for a three-year extension as he enters the final year of his previous contract. With this new commitment on the ground, we can think that the two parties will reach an agreement on the contractual level this time.

“I love being here in Boston. It would be cool to get an extension,” added Derrick White. “We’ll see what happens during that time, but I’m loving my time in Boston so far and my focus right now is on the season.”
