As he discusses a contract extension with the Celtics, Derrick White still don’t know if he will be a starter or 6th man. It doesn’t matter in the end since he will play his usual 30 minutes, and since his arrival, his influence has grown month by month, as we saw during the last playoffs.
Beyond wanting to exploit his full potential, the Boston guard responds to the challenges posed by… his father! This is what it reveals during an interview with NBC. A fan of the Celtics since he grew up in Boston, Richard White follows his son’s career, game by game, and he enters each stat line into an Excel sheet!
“Last year, my father sent me a complete spreadsheet in Excel. He writes down every match I played in an Excel sheet. He’s all in…” says the former San Antonio fullback.
“There are some numbers on contested shots, because he loves it. This is his favorite stat »
In this table, figures are highlighted, and these are objectives to be achieved for the son. “He wanted me to shoot 36% from 3-point range, and I succeeded. There are some numbers on contested shots, because he loves it. It’s his favorite stat. I don’t know what the exact number is, but I guess I’ll have to hit it. And then, he wants me to shoot 90% on free throws. I didn’t succeed, and I still have work to do. »
Generally speaking, and it doesn’t show in the figures, Derrick White wants to gain consistency.
“I just have to keep improving. Be more regular. Maintain the aggressive mindset I had last year” he lists. “It will be a fun year because we have so much talent. We have so many guys who can do a lot of different things, and it’s going to be exciting. Maybe it will be me one night, then maybe Sam (Hauser), then maybe Payton (Pritchard). We have so much talent it’s exciting and I’m just going to keep that mindset every night. »
