Derrick Jones Jr. decided and decided, like Khris Middleton, not to activate his “player option” at 3.36 million dollars to stay at the Bulls in 2023/24. All the elements of his reflection converged on this choice, first of all in view of the low amount of his last year of contract, when he took around triple over the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons, respectively in Portland then in Chicago.
As for the field, the experience of last season will not have encouraged him to extend the adventure since if he displays more or less the same stats as during the previous exercise, his playing time has still decrease.
Now an unprotected free agent, Derrick Jones Jr. will now look for a better contract, in terms of amount and duration, but also an environment where he will have more responsibilities.
Chicago Bulls forward Derrick Jones Jr. is declining his $3.3 million player option for the 2023-24 season and entering unrestricted free agency, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.
